A second one, in a different forest, with a different family and a completely different backdrop, is what turns a holiday into the story someone tells for years. This itinerary is built around a simple, slightly indulgent idea: trek in Bwindi and trek in Volcanoes National Park on the same trip, four or five days apart, using the short land border between southwestern Uganda and northern Rwanda rather than flying back out through Entebbe or Kigali in between.
It suits travelers who’ve already decided that one permit isn’t enough, and who’d rather spend a rest day on a quiet lake than in an airport.

Formalities are usually straightforward for travelers with the right visa in hand — Uganda and Rwanda both participate in the East Africa Tourist Visa scheme, which is worth arranging before departure specifically to make crossings like this painless.
From the border, it’s a further one to two hours into Bwindi’s Rushaga sector, chosen for this route largely because it sits closest to the crossing and offers several habituated families, keeping options open if one trek needs rescheduling.
